The most extensive research on the effect of omega 3 for children were held in Durham (England). The study covered more than 300 children and have been held for six months. This research has proven that omega 3 has a very positive impact on students ability to assimilate the educational material.
The research involved more than 300 schoolchildren, aged 5 to 12 years, from different schools. Pupils had problems with coordination and motor skills, also called as dispraction. One half of pupils were given omega 3. Second half of the students were given a placebo. Children were tested for motor skills, IQ, reading and writing skills. Both supplements were identical in taste, so children didn’t know what they got.
40 percent of children have noticed improvement in the abilities of reading and writing with regular use of omega 3 fatty acids. The study also showed that the diet of most children, unfortunately, does not include such important nutrients as fatty acids that promote normal development of the child.
Medical studies indicate a beneficial effect of omega-3 in hyperactive children. Use of Omega-3 helps children and adolescents with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and dyslexia (problems with reading and spelling), and improves coordination. Such conclusion was made by the authors of the medical journal “Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology & Biological Psychiatry”.
Studing the properties of omega 3 still continue. University of Bristol conducted research “Children of the 90s”. 14 thousand mothers and their children have taken part in it. The study has added excitement for vegetarians and those who dont eat fish enaugh. Scientists have found that children, whose mothers were taking omega 3 during pregnancy, are tend to have better vision, and they are faster to develop. School-age children who regularly took omega 3, became more attentive, focused, they have increased IQ, became neater handwriting.
There is no doubt that fish oil is highly beneficial for the child’s body. Unfortunately, it is difficult to persuade a child to drink this unpleasant-tasting product. But now, thanks to advances in technology, we have an opportunity to get rid of all the unpleasant features of fish oil, just by placing it in a gelatin capsule. It is easy to use and easy to store.
